Use the following guidelines to choose your child's fiddle or guitar class.
Beginning Fiddle: Knows basic technique; a few easy fiddle tunes; or is in the 2nd half of Suzuki Bk 1.
Intermediate Fiddle: Plays with good technique; knows a number intermediate-level fiddle tunes; or is in Suzuki Bks 2-3.
Advanced Fiddle: Mastered basic technique; has a solid repertoire of fiddle tunes in a number of keys; or is in Suzuki Bk 4.
Beginning Guitar: Knows G-C-D or A-D-E chords and can change between them. Students just starting out are also welcome.
Intermediate Guitar: Can play basic chord forms and rhythm licks in time with others. Knows a few three-chord bluegrass or folk songs.
The main goal of RRCA is to pass the traditions of Cajun music on to future generations, thus preserving this great music form. Classes are taught by exceptional instructors who share this vision and who make a living at performing and teaching Cajun music.
We also want to make RRCA available to all students regardless of their families’ income levels. Therefore the program is 100% free. However, there are substantial costs in making the program possible.

My child will be at Rhythm & Roots all three days and agrees to attend all sessions of the Cajun Academy for Kids. My child will bring his or her own instrument. I agree to hold Rhythm & Roots Festival harmless for any activity associated with my child’s participation in the Cajun Academy for Kids. This includes personal injury and any damage that might occur to any instrument and personal property being used in the activity.
